Meet Hussein - Plentific's Third Beam Pledge. Supporting Homeless People From Training to Trade

By Shariq Kochhar - July 19, 2019

Learn here about Hussein and how we're helping him - in his own words.

This is Hussein.

He comes from a poor family, so working hard to make ends meet, he says, has always been part of his DNA.

When he lost his job this year, he had to go back on benefits. He has come dangerously close to becoming homeless several times and still lives in fear of it. Of defaulting on his rent. Of being evicted.

But Hussein’s days are brightening. Beam has lifted him out of uncertainty and set him on the path to success. Today, he’s pursuing a formalisation of his great skill for electrical work. Even better news: his campaign has now been fully funded and he is a step closer to training and accreditation. We wish him luck on this journey and will continue to support him, along with Beam and the public’s generosity.

This is what Hussein has to say:

“I'm very relieved to have to have this opportunity. Suddenly everything changed. I asked a lot of job centres to provide this course, but I couldn't get any help. I'm very optimistic now and really hoping for the best.

Any donation, no matter how big or small shows a willingness to help those in need. Thank you for your donation.”

+ We are particularly happy this month, as Hussein’s story is being celebrated alongside another - Rob, whose campaign to become a bricklayer has also reached its goal!

Rob’s toughest days are behind him. He’s completed his prison sentence, is no longer rough sleeping and has found time to bond with his son. He’s on his way to being the role model he always wanted to be.

Beam, Rob and his caseworker are very excited for the next stage in his journey, which promises to be even more fulfilling and transformative.

Read Rob’s full story here https://beam.org/campaigns/rob-bricklayer-training, including pictures of some of the incredible work he’s doing. While you’re there, you can find ways to make a difference in the lives of others like Hussein and Rob.

At Plentific, we work with social housing providers to improve repairs and maintenance work - and with it, open up big company contracts to local businesses. We do this because we believe very strongly in building local communities while making operations work better for our clients.

This means we are eager to collaborate with those who support our mission-driven approach. Beam takes referrals from charities, training people at leading third party providers and placing them with local employers, usually in the trades.

Our collaboration means we not only support Beam’s cause with donations but also offer opportunities for future employment to those with the drive, but not the means, to change their lives for the better.
