Beam and Plentific celebrate Gaz's inspirational story as he trains to become a railway engineer.

Meet Gaz.

Gaz found a passion in working on the railways a few years ago. He loved challenging himself - said no two days were the same and that was one of the best parts of the job.

However, Gaz had been quietly dealing with a family tragedy that was causing him to drink - it was the only way he knew how to cope. For a long time he refused help. For a long time, he self-medicated.

When his daughter was born in 2014, he decided enough was enough. He couldn't bear to watch her grow up around him and his struggles. He got sober with the support of family members and finally started to feel himself again. Things seemed to be improving but then Gaz's life took another unexpected turn. He had to leave his house after his relationship ended. He was homeless and, before he knew it, had lost his permanent job. He started sofa surfing, took on temporary work - living life in extreme uncertainty about his next paycheque.

That was until Beam stepped in and began offering Gaz the support he needed. Beam is helping Gaz train to become a railway machine operator - which he is super excited about and calls a huge step up. He believes this will help him find permanent work and hopefully get his own place with the security a salary will bring.

He'll be able to tell his little girl when he can spend time with her instead of rushing off to a shift. Stability is really important to him. Plentific made a donation to Gaz's Beam campaign recently to help him achieve this stability. You too can make a donation towards his £6,050 goal.

This is what Gaz has to say:

"Starting this course marks such a change for me. I’m already getting more hours in my current labouring role as the company I’m sponsored by values me more and can see me progressing. I feel really inspired after completing this first milestone and its made me think about the future and what life will be like. I'm about to start the next part of my training and I'm even more motivated now that I've got going. A massive thank you to Beam and its supporters as this wouldn't have been possible without both."

At Plentific, we work with social housing providers to improve repairs and maintenance work - and with it, open up big company contracts to local businesses. We do this because we believe very strongly in building local communities while making operations work better for our clients.

This means we are eager to collaborate with those who support our mission-driven approach. Beam takes referrals from charities, training people at leading third party providers and placing them with local employers, usually in the trades.

Our collaboration means we not only support Beam’s cause with donations but also offer opportunities for future employment to those with the drive, but not the means, to change their lives for the better.
